TECU® Zinn

Through TECU® Zinn, KME offers a further possibility to realize different colours using the TECU® construction products. To manufacture TECU® Zinn, copper coil is specially tinned and surface-treated on both sides. The resulting silvery surface gradually takes on distinctive matt grey, often with greenish-grey hues, when exposed to natural weathering.

TECU® Zinn coil is manufactured in state-of-the-art production facilities to EN 1172 and KME's own strict guidelines. It is made from Cu-DHP – oxygen-free, phosphorus-deoxidised copper with limited residual phosphorus. Cu-DHP is well suited to welding and soldering, and is minimum 99.9% pure copper. Cu-DHP is outstandingly malleable, regardless of temperature or rolling direction. TECU® Zinn surpasses the requirements of EN 1172 regarding tolerances and the most important material properties. This gives cladding areas their excellent visual appearance.

TECU® Zinn is specially-treated TECU® Classic copper, tinned on both sides. The matt silvery surface continues to develop over time when exposed to weathering. A warm grey colour, often with greenish-grey hues, gradually develops, that harmonises well with other building materials. The surface is pure tin, which, like copper, is extremely resistant to atmospheric effects and also complements the characteristics of copper. The material offers architects many interesting design options wherever there is a need for light, grey surfaces, while retaining all the technical advantages of copper such as its long life, resistance to reverse-side corrosion and its workability at all temperatures.

TECU® Zinn is especially suitable for all metal-working processes & techniques, from traditional seaming to modern cladding fabrication. TECU® Zinn can be processed like bright rolled copper with the usual tools and equipment, using standard processing techniques such as folding, seaming and bending. As per copper in general, TECU® Zinn has excellent solderability. However, due to the special nature of TECU® Zinn's surface, a few important processing guidelines should be kept in mind.
