TECU Bronze

TECU® Bronze

TECU® Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. The original warm reddish-brown colour of TECU® Bronze has a distinctive appearance during natural weathering. During initial weathering a reddish-brown colour develops across the surface in more 'refined' manner, to give a more even brown tone to a façade compared with TECU® Brass. Over time, the surface darkens further to a rich dark brown on the façade. On inclined cladding areas, eventual patina formation is significantly slower than that of classic copper, and has a unique appearance.

Typical for this alloy is a brown-red oxidation of the surface with browngrey undertones; the material then very gradually changes to dark brown anthracite throughout. The subsequent patina coating forms much more slowly than with traditional copper – and with very singular results.

TECU® Bronze sheet and coil is manufactured in state-of-the-art production facilities to EN 1652 and KME's own strict guidelines. It is made of CuSn4, an alloy of copper and tin. CuSn4 is well-suited for welding and soldering and is malleable regardless of temperature and rolling direction. TECU® Bronze surpasses the requirements of EN 1652 regarding tolerances and the most important material properties. This gives cladding areas their excellent visual appearance.

TECU® Bronze offers a range of economic and fabrication advantages, such as outstanding resistance to mechanical abrasion, extremely high corrosion resistance as well as exceptional durability, stability and material rigidity.

The material TECU® Bronze can be cold-formed exceptionally well and is easy to solder. Hard soldering or brazing is possible with flux and TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding is also possible. TECU® Bronze is suitable for angle-seam and batten-roll techniques, self-supporting panels, and due to its particular material properties is very well-suited to fabrication of large-format cladding elements. The surface of TECU® Bronze is covered with a film for protection during transportation, fabrication and on-site installation. The protective film should be removed immediately after installation.
